Lethbridge’s historic railway station building received a new lease on life with a sensitive refurbishment.
The bluestone building was originally constructed in 1862 and fell into disrepair after passenger rail services
to the small rural township north of Geelong were discontinued.
Our job was to restore some of the landmark structure’s former grandeur, and prepare it for a new life as a
multi-purpose community arts and cultural hub.
Works included replacing the timber floor, bearers and joists throughout the 15 rooms, replastering and painting throughout;
and minor bluestone repair works. Interior amenities were installed or updated, with the building expected to host community events and private functions. Project manager Tim Jarman says original furniture such as honour boards, shelves and desks
were kept intact and are feature items of the refurbished interior.
